for Go and Get with Rex by David LaRochelle and Mike Wohnoutka
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Jack, Jill, and Rex are playing an exciting game of “Go and Get,” racing to find things that start with each letter the narrator calls out. “Go and Get something that begins with the letter F!” The three return in a flash (or rather in a “Zip! Zap! Zoom!”). Jack (light-skinned) brings a FROG! Jill (brown-skinned) brings a FISH! And canine Rex (brown and white, floppy-eared, pointy tail) brings “a DUCK? … Oh! This duck is your FRIEND.” Rex shows similar creativity with the letter S (he brings two ducks, but they’re SISTERS), and M (he has a dozen ducks, but they’re all MUSICIANS). So when D is called out, it’s obvious what Rex will bring … or is it? The joke never gets old in this breezy, frenetic, laugh-out-loud picture book with delightful gouache illustrations.

From the Publisher
The Geisel Award-winning creators of See the Cat channel their comic sensibility into a rousing alphabetical exercise in thinking outside the box.
Jack, Jill, and Rex are excited to play a game of Go and Get! The rules are simple: on the count of three, each player must go and get something that begins with a certain letter. While Jack's and Jill's picks always fit the bill (What starts with F? Frog! Fish!), Rex keeps getting it wrong (a duck?)--or does he? David LaRochelle and Mike Wohnoutka share a laugh-out-loud primer on subverting expectations that will have readers clamoring to play Go and Get themselves--and competing to see who can come up with the most creative answers.
